Cloudy. Air temps in the low 30s.Variable winds winds around 5 mph.

After driving to Powerton Lake and finding it closed, I headed over
to Spring Lake to look around knowing it would probably be frozen.
It was but the scenery was worth the trip. After meeting a
friend, the day was
saved by Herman Brothers
Pond Management. They put us on some nice fish and we didn't
have to resort to ice fishing to catch them. We caught a lot of
nice sized Trout including several big ones. The day could have
been ruined, but it turned out great thanks to those guys!

Des Plaines River |
Sunny. Air temps in the single digits to upper teens. NW winds around
5 mph.
|
|
Today was one of the coldest I've fished while in a boat. We caught
Channel Catfish, Largemouth Bass, White Bass, and
Dale caught a very
nice Northern Pike that I lost because I used a net that was too
small for the fish. The Bald Eagles were spectacular and we even
saw a couple Turkeys along the river.

Mostly sunny. Air temps in the mid to upper 40s. SW winds around
15 mph.

|
I caught 1 fairly decent Smallmouth Bass and that was it. It was a great morning to be out despite the slow fishing. However, I met up with Rob Kasjanski and he had a great day with several nice fish caught. | ||||||

Fishing was
slow but I caught a couple real nice bass anyway. The usual
techniques were not working so I had to adjust. Besides the bass, I
foul hooked a couple big catfish. Pictures From Today |

03/21/2008 LaSalle Lake State Fish and Wildlife Area |
Cloudy
with light rain. East wind
around 25 mph. Air temp in the mid 30s. Water temp 48 to 80 |
|
We weren't sure that the lake was open to boats so we called ahead before we hit the road. There was a winter storm warning in effect, but we got rain instead of the heavy snow that fell north of us. It was brutal in that wind but well worth it. I caught a couple huge catfish including a monster Channel and huge Blue. Both of us caught a lot of fish even though we didn't land quite a many as last time. |

04/01/2008 LaSalle Lake State Fish and Wildlife Area |
Cloudy
with intermittent light rain. West wind
around 30 mph. Air temp in the mid 30s. Water temp 48 to 80 |
|
I went to Heidecke first thing but it was closed due to the high wind so I hit LaSalle instead. I had the whole lake to myself until I left and then there were only two other cars in the lot. The lake was as rough as I've ever seen it. I caught 1 Drum and 1 Largemouth while fishing the only calm spot in the lake. |

04/06/2008 Heidecke Lake |
Sunny.
South winds around 10 mph. Air temp in the low 40s and rising. Water temp 45. |
|
I went to Heidecke for two hours in the morning and got my first skunking in a long time. I picked one small area to fish away from the crowd, but it was the wrong one. I didn't have much time to explore other areas so I had to leave with the zero. |

04/24/2008 thru 04/26/2008 Lake of the Ozarks |
The
weather ranged from near 80 and sunny to Thunderstorms to light
rain, to a cold front. We had a little of everything. Water temp ranged from 52 to 62 depending on what part of the lake you were in. |
|
Fridays fishing made this the best trip I've had to this lake yet. All 5 of us caught incredible fish including a 9 lb 5 oz Largemouth, a couple in the 8 lb range, and over a dozen in the 5 to 7 lb range. Crappie fishing was excellent too. Good fishing with good people doesn't get any better. Pictures From 4/24/08 Pictures from 4/25/08 1 of 2 Pictures from 4/25/08 2 of 2 Pictures from 4/26/08 Additional Photo |
